Raggedy Ann & Andy, Sonny & Cher, Vampires and Pirates couples costumes..

Can you get more classic than Raggedy Ann and Andy?  I think not.  Those are my parents making it just a bit disturbing with my father’s whiskers peeking out.  Still though, the Raggedys are always cute and very often done.  And as is often the case, you can go a a little slutty with this one if you want to… or even a little Goth.

Or you can just move on… who doesn’t like to dress up as Sonny and Cher?  The I Got You costume goes hand in hand with the Babe costume to recreate that classic couple and their classic song.  Not quite what you had in mind for “classic”?  Keep reading. 

You can not get much more classic than being a vampire for Halloween.  You might feel like it is even too overdone and completely overlook the idea on principle.  Make it fresh by coming as a vampire couple – Vampire and Vampira – or even a vampire family complete with matching kids versions (boy and girl).  Three weeks ago my daughter was absolutely certain she was going to be a vampire, so this may actually be a good fit for us as we like to go in costume with her when she goes trick-or-treating.  Of course, I think yesterday I heard her mumbling about being a leopard instead so that may change our plans.  Both Vampire and Vampira offer plus sizes as well. 

I could write an entire new blog with endless material on the history and cultural significance of vampires.  But with the recent emergence of the Twilight books (and movie) or HBO’s True Blood series (based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries with heroine Sookie Stackhouse by Charlaine Harris), who doesn’t know quite a bit about vampires already?  They are totally in vogue.

And if vampires aren’t your thing, then turn to pirates.  Pirates have seen a total resergence in pop cultural over recent years as well with the success of the Johnny Depp fronted Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy (soon to have a fourth – and, YES, our man Johnny, friend to costume lovers everywhere, has signed on).  The Rustic Pirate and the Rustic Pirate Lady are very classy (and classic) spins on the ever popular pirate costume.  And yes, again, both male and female offer plus sizes as well.  And you can throw in a couple of swabby costumes for your little son and/or daughter and even the baby as well.
